ALBEMARLE'S BLACK CLASSROOMS - DOCUMENTARY

Sunday, July 9th – Victory Hall, Valley Street, Scottsville - 4:00 pm

Albemarle's Black Classrooms, a new documentary film, will be shown on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Victory Hall. The film-maker, Lorenzo W. Dickerson, will be on hand to answer questions and lead a discussion. The event is sponsored by the Scottsville Museum. There is no admission charge but donations will be gratefully accepted.

Sunita Staneslow is celebrated internationally for her stunning performances. Though born in the U.S., she lives in Tel Aviv, Israel. All are invited to enjoy her vibrant, inspiring Scottish Music for Celtic Harp on Monday, July 31st at 7:00 pm at the Scottsville Presbyterian Church, 148 Bird Street. Benefits the Discovery School of Buckingham

2nd ANNUAL BBQ ON THE BEND COMPETITION

Saturday, September 23rd – Reeling & Rafting Campground – Gates Open At 11 am

You are invited to attend the 2nd Annual BBQ on the Bend Competition! This People's Choice competition will feature eight great teams smoking up some of their best pulled pork for you to try and rate your favorite! Proceeds from this year's BOTB will benefit the James River Boys & Girls Club. It will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at the Reeling & Rafting campground next to the Scottsville Public Boat Landing. Competitors will be cooking off for a grand prize of $1,000. Cookers will begin their smoking on Friday night
and the gates will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23rd. Throughout the day we will have raffle prizes and live music. It's going to be a smoking good time so spread the word!

DESIGN, MAKE, LAUNCH – ENGINEERING DESIGN CAMP

Monday, July 17th – Saturday, July 29th – Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad

A unique summer program for Albemarle County Public Schools students is coming to Scottsville! The school division will open the door to Design, Make, Launch, an engineering design camp to be held from July 17 – 29 in the Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad's Community Room.

The goal is to teach students in Kindergarten through 12th grade through a naturally collaborative environment for discovery and learning. The program runs for two consecutive weeks beginning July 17th. Morning sessions are devoted to students in grades K-5 and late morning through afternoon sessions are for middle and high school students.

The Bread of Life Ministry Food Pantries

The Bread of Life Ministry is a food distribution program providing food and supplies to those in need through the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Donors and contributors include local organizations, churches and businesses. Food is distributed the 3rd Saturday of the month from 8:15am – 9:15am at the Scottsville Commuunity Center and on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 10:00am at the Scottsville Farmer's Market Pavilion. Scottsville Community Day - See you in September of 2018

Community Day is a meet and greet event where civic and service organizations to come to Scottsville and give demonstrations, play games, and have educational materials for our visitors. Vendors in the health and wellness sector will also be present.

*Scottsville Lion's Club Duck Derby (2:30PM @ the James River, Scottsville Boat Landing)

Bring your family, and come spend the day in Scottsville! There are lots of surprises to discover that are not on this list.

Hops and Hymns Sun, July 16th, 7pm–8pm - 561 Valley St.. – An hour of joyus singing over the best brew in Scottsville! Open to all.. Hymnals provided. Shout out your favorite hymns and we all sing while sippin.

6th Annual Christmas Parade 2017 - billed as the Parade of Churches - It's happening on a Christmas time Saturday at 6pm in downtown Scottsville. Save a space on the sidewalks of Valley Street. Then go to the Farmer's Market building to join in on the festivities happening there.

The parade will move down Valley Street to the Farmer's Market Pavilion where churches will offer hot chocolate and cookies.  Santa Claus will be making an appearance too! Everyone is welcome!

Saturday, May 5th – James River Runners BaseCamp – 11:00 am until 6:00 pm

Each spring on the first Saturday in May, James River Runners hosts at their base camp at Hatton Ferry. The James River Runners Chili Cook-Off and Brewers Challenge! (directions to JRR) The event is sponsored by James River Runners, LLC, radio station Monticello Media & Budweiser (Va Eagle Distributors) and Specialty Beverage for the benefit of the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Dept.. The Southern Albemarle event is the largest fund raiser for the Fire Department each year.

32nd Annual Batteau Music Festival June , 2018 (Wednesday) - 249 E Main St. – Music and vendor fair to celebrate the halfway point in a week-long float of historic James River commerce boats from Lynchburg to Richmond

A hoedown during the Batteau Festival at the Farmers Market Pavilion!

Check out the Hoe Down. 7:00-9:30 P.M. Wednesday ! - The Ridge Runners plays music during the dances. A cash donation of $3-$4 per person helped defray the costs. - The Scottsville Batteau Hoedown is a part of the larger Batteau Festival. This festival celebrates the past history of the boats that traveled from Lynchburg to Richmond. Every year the Batteau boats make this same journey.

  • ·         Parade at 9:00 a.m.
  • ·         Vendors at Dorrier Park during the day.
  • ·         Awards Ceremony at Dorrier Park : 5:45pm
  • ·         Music at Dorrier Park from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. by the Tara Mills Band
  • ·         Fireworks at dusk.

The Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department parade will proceed from James River Road (east) down Valley Street (Route 20) to East Main Street (Route 6).  These streets will be closed from 8:45 a.m. until approximately 10:30 a.m.

There will be no parking on Harrison Street from 6:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  Any vehicles parked on Harrison Street during this time will be towed.

Road Closure Information:  Starting at 7:30 a.m. James River Road between Blenheim Road and Valley Street will be limited to parade traffic only.  Traffic on James River Road will flow from Blenheim Road towards Valley Street.

Starting at 9:00 a.m. the following roads will be closed to traffic:

  • ·         James River Road between Blenheim Road and Valley Street
  • ·         Valley Street between James River Road and East Main Street
  • ·         East Main Street between Valley Street and Poplar Spring Road

Accoustic JAM - Every second Friday of each month - 7 pm - 9 pm  at Victory Hall Theatre - Music Event - Bring your own AXE, meaning bring an instrument if you want to jam . Free and open to everybody. This an old get together that happens every 2nd Friday of every month.


Christmas Time

Christmas Tree Lighting Usually the Saturday right after Thanksgiving - 2017 – This is the beginning of the holiday season in downtown Scottsville.
