James River Boys and Girls Club of Central Virginia

JABA Senior Center - Every Wednesday – 9:30am–2pm

On Wednesdays from 9:30am until 2:00pm the Senior Center is open at the Scottsville Community Center. Activities include music, presentations, crafts, exercise, visits from Scottsville Elementary students, trips, puzzles and bingo. A hot lunch is served at noon. Anyone aged 60+ is invited and anyone younger than 60 is welcome to volunteer!


DESIGN, MAKE, LAUNCH & ENGINEERING DESIGN CAMP

Monday, July 17th - Saturday, July 29th - Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad
A unique summer program for Albemarle County Public Schools students is coming to Scottsville! The school division will open the door to Design, Make, Launch, an engineering design camp to be held from July 17 - 29 in the Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad's Community Room.

The goal is to teach students in Kindergarten through 12th grade through a naturally collaborative environment for discovery and learning. The program runs for two consecutive weeks beginning July 17th. Morning sessions are devoted to students in grades K-5 and late morning through afternoon sessions are for middle and high school students.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT

Every Second Friday - Scottsville United Methodist Church – 6:30PM to 8:30PM

Scottsville United Methodist Church will host its monthly FREE Family Game Night every Friday in the church's fellowship hall at 158 Main Street. Hula hoops, floor activities and both kid and adult table board games will be on hand from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. There will also be free pizza, salad, soft drinks and desserts. The Scottsville Museum

The Scottsville Museum is now open for the 2017 season, Saturdays from 10 to 5 and Sundays from 1-5. The ongoing exhibit, "Where the River Bends: Scottsville on the James," features many photographs of the floods, the remains of a mid-19th century canal boat, and a film on the geology of the river bend. Admission is free and all are welcome. To arrange special tours or midweek opening, call 286-2247.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Every Tuesday at 7:30pm - Scottsville United Methodist Church - AA meets in the Fellowship Hall and Al Anon (for families of problem drinkers) meets in the Sunday School Room. 434-293-6565

Scottsville Center for Arts and Nature

Located at Victory Hall Theatre - They offer daytime classes in Ballot, Irish Step Dance, Drama, Photography, and private/class instruction in sring instruments. Vicotry Hall serves as a performance venue for live performances (drama and music) and movies on occasions. Farmer's Market - 2017 Season

Saturdays at Farmer's Market Pavilion – 8am until 12 Noon –
The Scottsville Farmers Market is prepared for a new season!

The Grand Opening is on Saturday, May 6th when most vendors including Plants, Produce, Arts and Crafts are expected to be in attendance. The Scottsville Farmer's Market takes place at the Scottsville Farmer's Market Pavilion on Fleet Street (behind Tavern on the James). Market hours are 8:00 am until 12:00 Noon.

We ask our Market visitors to be considerate of our neighbors at Tavern on the James and not park in their parking lot –those spaces are for their customers. Thank you!

Annual Independence Day Parade and Celebration for 2017

Sponsored by the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Scottsville - Tuesday July 4th, 2017 - Grand Marshall will be announced around parade time

  • ·         Parade at 9:00 a.m.
  • ·         Vendors at Dorrier Park during the day.
  • ·         Awards Ceremony at Dorrier Park : 5:45pm
  • ·         Music at Dorrier Park from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
  • ·         Fireworks at dusk.

The Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department parade will proceed from James River Road (east) down Valley Street (Route 20) to East Main Street (Route 6).  These streets will be closed from 8:45 a.m. until approximately 10:30 a.m.

There will be no parking on Harrison Street from 6:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  Any vehicles parked on Harrison Street during this time will be towed.

Road Closure Information:  Starting at 7:30 a.m. James River Road between Blenheim Road and Valley Street will be limited to parade traffic only.  Traffic on James River Road will flow from Blenheim Road towards Valley Street.

Starting at 9:00 a.m. the following roads will be closed to traffic:

  • ·         James River Road between Blenheim Road and Valley Street
  • ·         Valley Street between James River Road and East Main Street
  • ·         East Main Street between Valley Street and Poplar Spring Road

Greater Scottsville Chamber of Commerce

There will be a Business After Hours & general membership meeting in May 2017 at 320 Valley Street.. Aside from enjoying socializing with other GSCC members we look forward to having a presentation and time for interaction with the Town Economic Development Committee who are working on many fronts to encourage the continued revitalization of our community. We will hear what they have been working on and have the opportunity to bring our concerns, ideas and thoughts on economic development to the committee.


Scottsville Pool

Join the newly renovated Scottsville Pool this season! Members will enjoy the refreshing, clear water with their friends, have fun at scheduled parties throughout the summer, and watch movies on select Friday nights on the outdoor "big screen." We'll have pick up soccer for kids on Tuesday evenings and sand volleyball for adults and young adults on Wednesday evenings.

Water aerobics classes taught by Jeanne Morris will be held for members and non-members on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 am from Tuesday June 9 until Thursday July 16. Cost is $36 for members, $42 for nonmembers for the entire session or half those rates if your schedule only allows you to come once a week. Email Colleen Green at cw6n@virginia.edu for a registration form.

One on one swim lessons by certified lifeguard Autumn Diggs are also being offered this summer.

Van Clief Nature Park - entrance way is at the corners of Jefferson Street and Valley Street . Walking traffic only. With a fishing license you can fish for trout or catfish. Open year round, but you cannot camp there yet.
